2018 Winner – Joel Rockes, AgriNous

The winner of the Agriculture category and overall inventor of the year was awarded to Joel Rockes for AgriNous, real time livestock processing software. “It digitises the transaction process of livestock from farm through to stock agents, all the way through to meat buyers and processors,” Mr Rockes said.

Mr Rockes worked within the banking sector before he moved into a private practice stock agency business in Bendigo.

“I saw there were lots of areas of data duplication and essentially a large workload that in the modern day didn’t need to be there, so we streamlined it all and packaged it into a software product,” Mr Rockes said.

Joel instinctively knew that infield digitisation of all Livestock Agent activities would not only eliminate inefficiencies of information exchange through to the back office, but it would also set the foundation for NLIS compliance with the imminent introduction of EID tagging of Sheep and Goats in Victoria.

Upon processing, all back office records are updated automatically reducing significant administrative costs and eliminating double handling of information, reducing the processing time of livestock sales dramatically.

Working over modern day cloud and app technologies, the system simply requires either mobile service or an Internet connection (no more local servers). The data is seamlessly available to back office staff no matter where they are for import into existing back office accounting solutions, allowing for buyer invoices to be produced sooner with greater accuracy.
